Trigodon gaudryi

Trigodon is an extinct genus of the family Toxodontidae, a large-bodied notoungulate which inhabited South America during the Late Miocene to Early Pliocene, living from 11.61 to 4.0 Ma which existed for approximately 7.61 million years. The type species is T. gaudryi. It bore a superficial resemblance to a rhinoceros, in that it had a horn on its forehead, and was one of a few horned notoungulates, including Adinotherium and Leontinia.

Time the record covers

At most 1.8 million years on record.

Every occurrence read is dated to somewhere between 5.333 Mya and 3.6 Mya, and nothing in the dating separates them, so that window is what the record shows rather than a span.

5 occurrences of Trigodon gaudryi on record, most of them in the Pliocene. Bar height is expected occurrences, not a count: each fossil is spread across the span it is dated to, so a tall narrow bar means tight dating and a low wide one means loose.

When

5 occurrences

These are dates about fossils, not the animal: the record can only begin after it arose and end before it died out, so either end may reach further. Shares are expected occurrences: a fossil dated to a span is counted partly in each period it straddles. More on what this infers.
