Cynariognathus

Glanosuchus is a genus of scylacosaurid therocephalian from the Middle Permian of South Africa. The type species G. macrops was named by Robert Broom in 1904. Glanosuchus had a middle ear structure that was intermediate between that of early therapsids and mammals. Ridges in the nasal cavity of Glanosuchus suggest it had an at least partially endothermic metabolism similar to modern mammals. Originally it was hypothesized that Glanosuchus survived the Capitanian mass extinction and persisted into the Endothiodon Assemblage Zone. However more recent analysis suggests it was restricted to the Tapinocephalus Assemblage Zone, suggesting Glanosuchus went extinct during the primary phase of the extinction event.

Time the record covers

At most 4.5 million years on record.

Every occurrence read is dated to somewhere between 264.28 Mya and 259.857 Mya, and nothing in the dating separates them, so that window is what the record shows rather than a span.

4 occurrences of Cynariognathus on record, most of them in the Permian. Bar height is expected occurrences, not a count: each fossil is spread across the span it is dated to, so a tall narrow bar means tight dating and a low wide one means loose.

When

4 occurrences

These are dates about fossils, not the animal: the record can only begin after it arose and end before it died out, so either end may reach further. Shares are expected occurrences: a fossil dated to a span is counted partly in each period it straddles. More on what this infers.

The Paleobiology Database records 4 sites for Cynariognathus, and this reads all of them. The number is how many of those sites it was catalogued from too.

This is not a list of everything alive at the time. It is only what has come out of the same ground as this animal and been written down.
