Tendaguripterus recki

Tendaguripterus is a genus of pterosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period in what is now Tanzania. The only specimen – a dentary – was discovered in strata of the Tendaguru Formation in southeastern Lindi. Between 1910 and 1912, members of a German fossil expedition to the Tendaguru Formation in then-German East Africa collected many pterosaur fossils from Site Jg. One fossil, an isolated dentary, was later taken to the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, Germany. This specimen was unnoticed for decades until in 1999, paleontologists David Unwin and Wolf-Dieter Heinrich scientifically described it as belonging to a new genus and species of pterosaur. They named it Tendaguripterus recki, the only known species, after German geologist Hans Reck.

No picture of Tendaguripterus recki was found. Wikipedia, Wikidata and iDigBio were searched and had none. Smithsonian Open Access did not answer, so this is what the others held rather than everything there is. GBIF was asked, and what came back is not recorded: nothing, or a picture this site could not tie to Tendaguripterus recki, or no answer at all. This entry cannot say which.

1 occurrence of Tendaguripterus recki on record, most of them in the Late Jurassic. Bar height is expected occurrences, not a count: each fossil is spread across the span it is dated to, so a tall narrow bar means tight dating and a low wide one means loose.

When

1 occurrences

These are dates about fossils, not the animal: the record can only begin after it arose and end before it died out, so either end may reach further. Shares are expected occurrences: a fossil dated to a span is counted partly in each period it straddles. More on what this infers.
